Local ordinances lead to state laws banning fracking and pipelines.
And don’t forget Sabal Trail has to get permits from the Georgia
Department of Transportation for road crossings and an air quality permit
from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for the Albany compressor
station, or no pipeline.
There is plenty local, state, and federal elected officials can do to
stop this invading fracked methane destruction and hazard.

Here are some ways how.
How about a county ordinance rooted in the Comprehensive Plan? A local ordinance was used by Jefferson County, Florida to keep Nestle out of the same Floridan Aquifer. Local ordinances have been used in Pennsylvania to stop pipelines, and upheld by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Local ordinances were used across New York State to ban fracking, and upheld by the state Court of Appeals, until the state government finally took up the cause and banned fracking statewide.

FERC had been saying no LNG export, yet the pipeline partners said a year ago
in their Open Season: “as well as deliveries to Cove Point LNG”.
NextEra, co-owner of Sabal Trail Transmission,
is one of the Mountain Valley Pipeline partners.
Sabal Trail and FERC have told us Sabal Trail is not for LNG export,
yet they never told us about an already-approved LNG export license
right where the Sabal Trail pipeline chain goes in Florida.

A partner in the controversial Mountain Valley Pipeline confirmed this week that natural gas transported by the pipeline could be one supply source for liquefied natural gas bound for India.
The news comes after Paul Friedman, a project manager for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, repeatedly — and publicly — dismissed concerns last month from pipeline opponents that natural gas transported through the pipeline would be exported.

Turn one vote and actual approval of TPP will fail, because the pro-LNG-export pro-fracking pro-pipeline Trans-Pacific Partnership got Fast Track Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) in the U.S. Senate yesterday “by the narrowest margin in the legislative mechanism’s history, 60-37. The procedural measure required 60 votes to pass.” So it’s time to call Florida Senator Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio (who apparently didn’t even read it), Georgia Senator David Perdue who claimed he wanted transparency and Johnny Isakson who should represent the people of Georgia, and all the other Senators who voted for that corporate power grab.

Citing the GDOT denial of KMI’s Palmetto Pipeline and numerous specific hazards of Spectra Energy’s proposed Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline (sinkholes in karst limestone and a compressor station next to Albany’s water wells, all for no benefit to Georgia, by a company with a poor safety record), U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop (GA-02) wrote to FERC (PDF):
I believe that FERC should deny STT’s application for a Certificate of Public Necessity.
And he told FERC to tell Sabal Trail to stop suing his constituents for eminent domain.
A year after
Rep. Bishop listened in Albany for two hours to complaints about Sabal Trail,
Dougherty County and
Albany, Georgia
filed followup letters to their resolutions against that pipeline.
Neither FERC nor Sabal Trail answered them,
so their Representative in the U.S. Congress forwarded their
letters with that sharp cover letter.
Three weeks later, FERC still hasn’t even filed his letter in their e-comment system,
much less responded to it.

In a blow to Kinder Morgan’s proposed Palmetto Pipeline, GDOT has denied Kinder Morgan’s request for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity. This means the pipeline company cannot declare eminent domain on property owned by landowners who object to this $1 billion pipeline, that would transport gasoline, ethanol, and diesel from Belton, South Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida.
Official Statement from GDOT:
“After careful consideration of information in the application submitted by Kinder Morgan on behalf of Palmetto; numerous public comments submitted at seven (7) public meetings held by Palmetto; two (2) public hearings hosted by the Georgia DOT; and approximately 3000 public comments submitted online and by mail to myself and the Utilities staff, the Department has determined that it will not issue a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity.”
Perhaps the same action can be done concerning the Sabal Trail Pipeline proposing to be gouged through Alabama, Georgia and Florida rivers, wetlands, and atop the Floridian Aquifer.

Most of the 400 people at the final Georgia Department of Transportation hearing
vehemently opposed Kinder Morgan’s Palmetto petroleum products Pipeline.
There’s still time to ask GDOT to deny the Palmetto permit.
Now is the time also to ask GDOT to deny any permits for the Sabal Trail
fracked methane pipeline,
and for Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle
to oppose Sabal Trail like they just said they oppose the Palmetto Project.

Are Spectra and FPL running short on money so they have to take on a new investor?

The AP story includes two misconceptions. After protests continuing into this year, a criminal trespass lawsuit against Sabal Trail, and multiple parties filing amicus briefs, this is all AP remembers:
The pipeline drew protests from southwest Georgia residents last year, who said they do not want a pollution-emitting compression station near their homes.
And despite Sabal Trail’s continued failure to demonstrate need, AP repeats this old canard:
Currently there are only two major pipelines that deliver natural gas to Florida. Both are nearing capacity.
Not if the Sunshine State gets on with solar power, like even the most corrupt state (Georgia) is doing.
